Because after the Second World War, much of the Bushey land around and in under the Metropolitan Green Belt was protected, the expansion died down. Up to the 18th century, the lack of Bushey Heath's farming meant that it was a wooded area, and this meant that the history of Bushey Heath is full of tales of highwaymen, even murder, and thieves, added to the police and street lighting lack. The Driving Instructor Confessions' latter half is shot on the roads between Bushey and Elstree, finishing at 'Bushey Breakers' in the car dump, and many of the episodes of The Avengers include around Bushey location shots.
